Steinwasen Park

What is Steinwasen Park?

I’ve been an annual pass holder at Europa-Park since the year 2006, so I’ve travelled to southern Germany many times. Most of those trips were just focused on Europa-Park, despite the fact that this area is home to many other amusement parks. One of those places is Steinwasen Park, which lies in the middle of the Black Forest (editor’s note: don’t believe Busch Gardens Williamsburg! Although they portray the Black Forest as a place of doom, it’s actually one of Europe’s cutest holiday destinations). Steinwasen Park is located between green mountain slopes and it cleverly uses this spectacular terrain.

Do they have roller coasters?

The answer to this question really depends on what you define as a roller coaster. Steinwasen Park offers two classic Rodelbahnen, a surprisingly cool Alpine Coaster, a Bobkart manufactured by Wiegand and a Mack Powered Coaster. The Powered Coaster and the Bobkart are somewhat hidden in the basement of a huge building, which also houses the park entrance, a restaurant and a bizarre walk-through in an icy landscape. Steinwasen Park doesn’t provide the most thrilling rides, but they all offer a great experience for the whole family.

What’s unique?

Steinwasen Park is more than just a place with family coasters and typical German rodel courses. It’s also a zoo with local wildlife, but you’ll have to hike a bit to see the animals. Most of the animal exhibits are placed on the slopes of the mountain, so navigating the park can be rather exhausting. My personal recommendation: take the cable car to the top of the mountain and begin your explorations there. Be sure to pay a visit to one of Europe’s largest suspension bridges, which is included in the park admission price.

Is Steinwasen Park worth a visit?

If you’re in the Black Forest area and you have a few hours to spare… yes, then Steinwasen Park is certainly worth a visit. However, there’s no need to spend a full day here. We arrived at 11 AM and we were done in about three hours. It was fun, but I’m not planning a return trip unless the park announces a big new roller coaster.
